Women's Soccer Shuts Out Emmanuel

Tuesday, October 06, 2009
FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - Senior Marina Lima and freshman Emma Plewa scored two goals apiece and coach Matt Yelton used 22 players as his third-ranked Lee women's soccer team coasted to a 5-0 victory over Emmanuel on Tuesday afternoon.

"I was really pleased with the way our girls performed at a tough place to play," said Yelton after his club improved to 7-2 on the year and remained unbeaten in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The long week continues for the Lady Flames on Thursday as they return to the Lee Soccer Field to host Shorter College in a key conference matchup. They will play their third game of the week on Saturday when Brewton-Parker comes calling for a 2 p.m. affair.

The Lady Flames put the game away in the first 15 minutes with a pair of scores. They built up a 4-0 advantage by halftime and never looked back. Plewa scored first on an assist by Lima, who finished the afternoon with two assists to go along with her two goals. Lima scored next and was assisted by Chris Christensen.

After Lima scored again on another assist by Christensen to make it 3-0, Christensen tallied the next goal and it was 4-0 at the break. Christensen opened the second 45 minutes with a score and got an assist from Jamie Achten. Plewa wrapped up the match with a goal. The double assist came from Jamie Achten and Lima.

"Emmanuel played both Auburn Montgomery and Brenau close here," said Yelton. "I think that's a pretty good example of how we played. We expect Shorter to bring a stronger challenge to our place on Thursday."

Lee fired away at will in the victory, taking 28 shots and 15 were on target. Emmanuel was only able to take four shots and had one on goal. Leah Wilson and Leigha Terry split time at the goal-keeping position for the Lady Flames.
