LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Coach Don Jayroe and his Lee University women’s cross country ran against some of the nation’s best on Saturday afternoon in the Greater Louisville Classic, and the Lady Flames placed 32nd.

The annual event was hosted by the University of Louisville and the Lady Flames were entered in the Gold race against 291 runners from 35 schools. Only three NAIA teams took part and the remainder of the field consisted of NCAA Division I and II schools.

Purdue University placed first in the team event. The University of Kentucky finished second and host Louisville was third in the team competition. Janet Jesang of Western Kentucky finished first in the individual competition. Tarah McKay of Louisville was second and Shorter College's Justyna Mudy showed that she could run against the best by finishing third with a time of 17:09.

Senior, Anna Hrushka led Lee’s runners finishing 120th (19:19.90), followed by Erin Wasserfall 180th (19:57.73), Maggie Opelt 182nd (19:59.19), Kristin Cretton 206th (20:12.26), Joy Hrushka 240th (20:48.86), Ashley Allison 277th (22:19.94), and Sydney Bowman 281st (22:45.96).

According to Jayroe, some of his ladies ran very well. “We know that we must have every member to run well on the same day if we expect to make it to the nationals as a team. We know that we can make it happen.”
